How to Enchant in Dungeons 2

How enchanting works in Minecraft Dungeons II: where the Enchantsmith is, what books cost in Enchantment Points and Echo Shards, and where each book drops.

How enchanting works

Enchanting in Minecraft Dungeons II is not random. You collect enchantment books, keep them for good, and apply them to gear at an Enchantsmith. Each application costs two things: Enchantment Points and Echo Shards.

We have not tested these steps ourselves. The numbers on this page come from MetaBot.GG’s enchanting guide, which says it read them from the game files of build 1.1.1.0 and the in-game tutorial text. It was updated on 5 October 2026. Where another source disagrees, we say so below.

  1. Get a book. Books come from quests, Dungeons, Rifts and area loot. A book you pick up joins your library permanently. The quest Training with the Enchantsmith in Howling Woods gives your first three.
  2. Find an Enchantsmith. MetaBot lists five of them in four places: Brave Haven, Howling Woods (two), Rainy Plains and Frozen Highlands.
  3. Pick an item. Enchantments go on your melee weapon, your ranged weapon and four armor pieces. Each enchantment fits only some slots, so a melee wave effect will not appear for a bow.
  4. Choose a book and pay. The price depends on the item’s rarity and the enchantment level.
  5. Upgrade later. Once the Enchantsmith itself has been levelled up with Echo Shards, you can raise an applied enchantment to level II or III.

Books are not consumed, so one book can go on several items. Disenchanting or salvaging an enchanted item refunds the Enchantment Points.

What do Enchantment Points and Echo Shards come from?

  • Enchantment Points: you earn 1 for each character level, and the game caps the total at 99. That matches the 99 level-ups between level 1 and the level cap of 100. See our max level guide.
  • Echo Shards: a rare currency from finishing Dungeons and Rifts, beating bosses and Soul Storms. You can carry at most 100. They are also spent on Blacksmith re-rolls and vendor upgrades, so spend them before a big payout.

What does an enchantment cost?

Cost in Enchantment Points, by the rarity of the item you enchant. Level II and III show the running total from level I.

Item rarity Level I Level II (total) Level III (total) Echo Shards
Common 1 3 6 1
Rare 1 4 9 1
Special 2 6 12 1
Unique 3 8 15 1

MetaBot says the Level I values are from the game’s cost table and the running totals are its own arithmetic. It lists the Echo Shard cost as 1 with no increase per level.

The sources agree once you read them carefully. Maxroll’s enchanting guide (28 September 2026) also says every application costs 1 Echo Shard. So maxing one enchantment through three levels costs 3 shards. That is the “15 points and 3 Echo Shards” that DungeonsDB reports in our max level guide: 15 is the Unique row above, and DungeonsDB’s 3, 5 and 7 points are the cost of each step (3, then 5 more, then 7 more) on a Unique item.

Maxroll adds a separate cost: the Enchantsmith starts out able to apply level I only. You pay 30 Echo Shards once to unlock level II and 60 more for level III. That is a one-time upgrade of the Enchantsmith, not a price per enchantment.

Where do enchantment books drop?

According to MetaBot’s reading of the loot tables:

Source Books Odds per book drop
Any area Fire Aspect, Poison Fog, Frost Crescent, Lightning Surge, Crash Landing, Buddy Brew, Cow Stampede, Ender Mines, Thundering, Dynamo, Ender Quiver 1 in 11
The Deep Dark dungeons Somersault, Shockwave, Tempo Theft, Shadowcloak, Springload, Ricochet 1 in 6
Ravines Soul Blast, Artifact Amplifier, Gravity Pulse, Health Synergy, Bottomless Brew, Chain Reaction 1 in 6
The Sift Swirling, Barrier Brew, Power Amplifier, Shielding Smite, Critical Quiver, Tumbleshot 1 in 6
Quest: Training with the Enchantsmith Piercing, Healing Smite, Ancient Alchemy Quest reward

Two enchantments, Primed Enchantment and Ichor Blast, have no book. They are built into a Unique weapon. That makes 34 enchantments, 32 of them with books. DungeonsDB’s database lists 32.

Enchantsmith or Blacksmith?

The Enchantsmith applies and upgrades enchantments. The Blacksmith raises an item to your current level for emeralds and re-rolls an item’s effects, not its enchantments, for Echo Shards. MetaBot notes that at player level 15 you can upgrade the Brave Haven vendors for the first time, at a cost of 300 emeralds, 50 Echo Shards and 4 enchantment books, so start saving shards a few levels early.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Do not hoard points for a build you do not have yet. Points come back when you disenchant, so enchant what you wear now.
  • Do not enter a Rift or Soul Storm near 100 Echo Shards, because the extra is wasted.
  • Do not put level III on a Common item you will replace soon.

Which enchantments are worth it?

We rank them on the enchantments tier list, with three published rankings side by side. For finished loadouts, see the best builds guide.
